For the past 4 migration seasons I have raised exclusively monarch butterflies in similar enclosures at my home in Long Island, NY (over 2,700 healthy monarch butterflies were released August-October 2020) so I have gained a lot of experience , after trying about 8-9 models from different companies with different characteristics, shapes and sizes. What I liked about this product and why: 1. I was surprised that the product came with a full color instruction manual as this is the first time I received it with a butterfly case! It contains some very useful information about raising monarchs and sailboats for beginners that I wish I had when I started. I appreciate that the 2 zippers allow for 2-way opening/closing (the flexibility comes in handy when releasing or tagging 20+ butterflies at a time) and all cases I've seen in this price range have only had one .3 . The size is ideal. I use recycled soft drink containers with lids to keep the milkweed upright and constantly fresh (like freshly cut flowers in water) and to prevent the caterpillars from drowning in the water thanks to the lid acting as a barrier (the space for the straw , where the milkweed goes into the water). ). This arrangement provides monarch caterpillars with a more hygienic environment that better mimics nature, where they cannot (for the most part) walk in their feces. Shorter and/or wider models are too short to accommodate large stalks of Euphorbia in a soft drink container. The larger models don't fit upright in the back seat of my small car (Toyota Yaris) and I don't have to bend the wire. The frame is a bit, which may pose a butterfly crush hazard.4. Some living spaces have thicker nylon flooring instead of mesh, but I like this mesh flooring product better because it dries faster in the air after washing (by soaking in a bath with a heavily diluted bleach solution).5. The mesh size is ideal because it keeps predators out at all times and keeps the aphids inside (and/or accidentally hatched larvae or taheen flies) from escaping and getting into my houseplants. Clear windows (ideal for classrooms) and handles are sturdy.7. GOOD PRICE! This RestCloud three-pack deal is the best value I've seen. Because it's best to keep monarch butterflies of different ages/sizes separate (so small newborns don't get lost in the wood or accidentally eaten by larger caterpillars), AND because it's important to keep monarch butterflies separate from caterpillar rearing to avoid a disease called Prevent OE , pack of 3 are ideal for providing the healthiest growing conditions for Monarch caterpillars.
