Review on Fantom Drives DVR2KEUS - 2TB External Hard Drive for Supported DirecTv, Dish, Motorola, Arris and More - USB 3.0 & eSATA - Silver (Includes USB and eSATA Cable) by James Dominick

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Tried two, both incredibly loud, watch the video.

I bought the first one, hooked it up to my Spectrum Motorola DVR with no problems, declared the win, then I noticed I could hear on the TV…. I thought I just got a bad one so we ordered another one. It arrived in a box of a different color, more white than red, while the first was more red than white. After confirming that the model number was exactly the same, I thought it might be a newer stock. Plugged it in, just like before, it was recognized and worked great except for the exact same clicks/rattles. If you've ever had a hard drive failure, you've probably heard similar noises. I made a video so you can decide for yourself. Note that it sits on a piece of rubber to insulate it, and before I did that it was noticeably louder as the case vibrated. I suppose it's hard to determine relative loudness from the video, but at 15 feet away you can hear it on TV at what I would call average TV volume. When you turn off the TV (the DVR is still on), it's unbearable. However, it works. It plugged directly into my DVR as mentioned. It seems slower when accessing/fast forwarding etc compared to the built in HDD but I expect it. So it works, but it's too loud to keep up. Considering I tried two, I doubt they both had bad drives, which is why I'm assuming they're so noisy.
