Review on πŸš— Scosche SCN2059B: 2005-10 Scion TC Double DIN Dash Kit with Elimination of Flip-up Door by Michael Boyce

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Doesn't work out of the box for 2-din stereos with detachable front panel. Ideal for non-removable.

Installed on a 2005 Scion TC. It almost looks factory as it wraps perfectly around the face, but the color is slightly different from the factory plastic, emphasizing that it's not factory, but not so different as to draw attention or cause concern. In general it looks very good. It should work great for fixed/non-switchable dual dyne faceplates. However, this perfect fit poses a problem for detachable bezels like the Pioneer W4400NEX I installed. After ripping off the first one I bought when trying to modify it, I found that (as others have noted here have) the way to get it to work without sacrificing the aesthetic is to carefully trim the bottom strip around the edges and cut off most of the upper lip that goes back into the cavity. I left about 1/4 inch (maybe a little less) of the edge in place so as not to risk bumping into anything visible from the front. The front still looked tight, but now the front could be opened and removed. To cut off the bottom, any sharp blade is enough to cut flush. For the top, I used an oscillating multi-tool with a curved wood cutting blade and ran it at a slower speed. At high speed or with a dremel, it melted the plastic instead of scraping and cutting it, creating lots of edges that had to be sanded down. Make sure to cover the visible front areas with a layer or two (or three) of tape to make sure you don't accidentally scratch it on something while cutting through the back.
