Review on Adjustable Heavy-Duty Universal Transom Saver by Extreme Max - Model 3001.1068 by Corey Randolph

Ideal for my application

Before ordering this option from Revain I looked at several options for a rear guard. I'm very glad I decided to stay in this unit. I made a few modifications and now I have a rig that fits my boat perfectly. Some of the feedback was about the engine stalling when using this unit. I solved this problem by replacing one of the 5/16" bolts with a 5/16" eyebolt and using a second EPDM tape. I have now driven almost 300 miles with this rig with a trailer and it holds my outboard securely in place. In one of the photos you can see how I added an extra strap. I also changed the frame mount. The slot in the bracket is large enough to allow the outboard to jump about 1 1/8 inches. After formatting the transom connector for my outboard, I cut a 1/8" x 1" piece of galvanized flat bar. and grounded to match the angle of the headpiece "helical" mechanism. In one of the photos you can see how I installed this flat bar to remove 95% of the rebound from the system. I can now have about 1/8" rebound, which I'm very happy with. It's a heavy rig. I only have a 25hp outboard, but that's more than enough for my needs. The price is good too. I can't say how this will hold up to a much larger engine but I am very happy with this tail saver and would (with mods) highly recommend it.

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
