Difficult to connect to Wi-Fi

I have yet to get this thing to work! It doesn't connect to the wifi as easily as it should. I've tried various troubleshooting solutions that I can think of and all stupid thing it does is scan the room but not scan the QR code. I watched videos that said you can't say no to a great camera. Well I've given up.
