HD146X Great out of the box. Cross your fingers.

This HD146X replaces a 5-6 year old Optoma 520 which eventually ran into a problem and only produced a faded pink image. Choose this latest model with similar specifications. i am a researcher You know who you are like me. Especially with such serious purchases that cost more than 300-400 dollars and are technical and electronic. There are so many options today. I received this device today and one day from Revain. Cool! Out of the box, the immediate difference to our old Optoma 529 was the brightness. Wow! Some reviews mention that it's bright enough to see in the room with the lights on, and those claims are 100% legit. Very bright and I am very satisfied. Next, the throw on this device is identical to our old 520. I installed the same exeolitic mount and did NOTHING to adjust the zoom for our screen. I'm projecting this onto a 120 inch 16:9 horizontal screen that I built myself when screens this size cost over $1200. I built my own screen for about $180 and that was 6 years ago. It's also MUCH quieter than our old Optoma 520. The fan nose has bothered some 520 buyers but never bothered us when watching movies. However, this HD146X is VERY quiet even with the fan running. For buyers who may also have an Optoma projector but are looking for a good item, I have bad news. This unit comes with the same remote control with SUPER bright buttons on the back that are way too bright. This is not a problem for me as we control our home theater with a Logitech programmable remote. Just wanted to let everyone know that the Optoma remote is functional and easy to use. It's lightweight plastic, though, and the buttons on the back are insanely bright. As if you could use it to navigate around the house in the dark instead of your smartphone's flashlight. I'm thrilled out of the box. I'm crossing my fingers though and hope mine lasts longer than 3-4 months like some of the other reviewers here. I definitely found the warranty registration card and immediately went online and registered my unit just in case. This is a no-frills device that appears to have excellent video quality. I'm a big fan of Revain reviews and believe in buying based on reviews so I pay up front for what I buy. If there are any changes, I will definitely update this review.
