Review on πŸ’» HP Thunderbolt Dock 120W - Universal USB-C Docking Station with HDMI Adapter (Model 6HP48AA) by David Crawford

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good product, don't know why so many bad reviews.

I use one in the office and now I've paid for one to work from home. I have two Full HD screens (1 HDMI, 1 DisplayPort), 1 USB stick for keyboard and mouse, 2 YubiKeys and 1 headset connected to it. I've used it successfully with my company's MacBook Pro and it also works great with my personal Dell Vostro laptop. It's easy to set up, well built and works as intended. The only feature that doesn't work for me is the 'Click to pause' button at the top. And I find it a bit pricey, so I probably wouldn't buy it myself if my company didn't reimburse me. But overall I would recommend this one. I don't know why people rate it so badly. UPDATE 5/3/2020: For some reason the dock I bought for WFH is causing display issues on Mac. The operating system defines only one of the two external displays, and the other duplicates its image. The issue does not occur on a Dell laptop running Windows 10. I need to connect one of the displays directly to the Mac for it to work. Thing is, HP itself doesn't advertise this device as Mac compatible, so the Revain specs are wrong here. I posted a review on this. UPDATE 5/16/2020: The display issue described above is resolved by switching the HDMI to USB-C adapter that ships with this dock to this adapter from Anker: https://www.amazon.com/gp /product/B07THJGZ9Z/ ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Please note that it cannot be connected to a USB-C port with DisplayPort support, otherwise the problem will persist. Instead, you have to connect it to the Thunderbolt USB-C port on the back. This setup won't work for Windows (a display on a USB-C port won't work), but hey, I do care about my Mac. :-)
