Our water softener removes minerals so we had to put those minerals back into our tank. Our softened water has 2 gh, which is not enough, especially for our snails that need calcium for shell growth. Experimented with test water and found the right amount of balance mix to add. According to our API test kit, GH went from 2 to 8. I like that it doesn't contain sodium chloride. Sodium chloride can ruin your fish's electrolytes. So far this product has worked great.
