I don't like the idea of โ€‹โ€‹tethering multiple USB ports.

I'm not a music lover but definitely an audio enthusiast. I argued between an external DAC and a sound card for several weeks and settled on the AE-5. I don't like the idea of tying up the few USB ports I have left for something permanent, internal as it was. I have to say that this is a definite improvement over my on-board sound (Asus z170-pro) in terms of sound quality. Listening to lossless sound sources with this card is pure pleasure. I switch back and forth between gaming and music quite often, as well as between 5.1 surround sound and headphones, and I have to say I've noticed an improvement across the board. I have several headphones that recommend amps and they all sound great. PROS: - The sound quality is great and the audio enhancement software tools make it sound amazing. I often switch sound profiles and find the setup most convenient. 5.1 surround sound for gaming sounds significantly better than built-in. with and without lights on. These are all gimmicks, but maybe this will save you the hassle of buying Hue+ and running an extra program. - The 7.1 headphone setting for gaming works great. CONS: - When the headphone volume is turned up MUCH more and you are using the rear mic input. There is noticeable background noise. The noise reduction in the software does a good job here, but the voice quality is hardly affected. I'm sure there are LOTS of variables, but even with an expensive headset with a great mic it's noticeable. Audio quality via the mic input is still generally excellent and over the top for something like Discord. Software. It's often less responsive and may not remember all of your settings. The software is the worst, but it's very useful. - Switching from headphones to 5.1. This can only be done easily with the supplied software, which can become annoying if you switch back and forth frequently. I believe there are scripts you can install to move the buttons to the taskbar. - Direct vs. 7.1 on headphones. This causes a freeze when you're listening and trying to switch between them. - IT CAN BE LOUD, the headphone amp is no joke. I have not attempted to fool the recon radar and have no intention of doing so.
