Edit: ok when I first wrote my review I just looked at it for obvious damage and then took one out to inspect it more closely. I've watched them more and more since then and of the 5 I bought only the first one I looked at has those loud loops. So for me 1 out of 5 is not bad at all. I'm not sure why any of them have noisy loops or how to fix them, but that was the one. maybe this is the last in a bad batch or something because the other 4 are silent and the lid is a lot flatter than the first. Upgraded the star rating because I think the pound hinge is a fluke. Who buys them for tarantulas: I bought them because the tarantulas, which I thought could not be shipped, turned out to be able to ship before the cages I bought for them. Arrival (luckily the seller was able to delay shipping so it worked) I bought them anyway in case T arrives first and I needed a quick do-it-yourself place to stay. They are a good size and shape. You seem strong. However, there are a few surface imperfections (I'm not really worried about that, but it could depend on how big the scratch is and where it is), my big issue is that the hinge is SO LOUD! Unless I find a safe way to calm her down, the tarantula will be scared to death every time you open the lid. It should also be noted that the lid does not really close. The YouTube Type T mentions that its shelves help keep the lids closed, and I assume that would work, but there's still a bulge in the middle of the lid that never flattens out. Not big enough for a tarantula to EVER come out of, but I personally like my tarantula cages to be completely covered! It might work if your shelf is just the right size to hold it, but my plan of adding acrylic hinges to the front won't keep the lid straight. So, long story. It will work in a pinch, but I'm glad my real tarantula cages are here before the tarantulas so I don't have to use them. Also as they are not technically designed for tarantulas I am giving a high rating because for storing shoes they will work very well for their original purpose although the hinge is still very noisy (see my video) so it always will still be a nuisance even if you're not a tarantula.
