Review on Inferno Stove Top Thermometer (3-30) - Precision Temperature Measurement for Stove Tops by Diane Hubert

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It's mechanical. It takes time to register the temperature.

Roughly equivalent to a digital IR thermometer. Remember that a wood stove will not have the same temperature everywhere. It depends on where your fire is, where most of the charcoal is, what type of wood you are using, how the air is supplied, if your stove has afterburners and where they are etc. I used an IR thermometer to check to determine the hottest spot on the front of our wood stove. This front-mounted spring thermometer approximates the average temperature of the top. There is a range of 200 degrees (400-600F) for optimal combustion. That's more than enough for that.
