Great MoCA adapter for TIVO Roamio Basic and nearby media devices

The previous owners did not run network cabling throughout the house and there is no way to run network cabling in our finished basement. However, there are multiple cable outlets in every room, so MoCA adapters will come in very handy. We have a home business and our old ZyXEL110V powerline adapters are fast enough for network printing and automatic backup to a home server. While Netflix streaming worked fine on 110V (or even over WiFi), higher quality home video streaming from our home server and/or video streaming from TIVO Roamio to TIVO Mini was not possible. TIVO Roamio Basic does not have a built-in MoCA. Adapters (like Roamio Plus and Pro) to stream shows on TIVO Mini in another room, but Roamio Basic is also the only one that supports OTA antennas. Therefore, Roamio Basic needs an external MoCA adapter to connect to TIVO Mini (Mini has its own built-in MoCA adapter). Instead I chose this Actiontec (ECB3500T01) without additional network ports. Instead of using slower WiFi or 110V adapters, all devices in one location are now connected to this MoCA switch via Cat6, and all devices now easily stream video to/from different devices that are also connected via MoCA or via Cat6 connected to our home router. a simple plug and play device - it worked right out of the box with no worries. If you're having trouble, make sure the cable lines you're using are connected together through the same splitter in your basement, etc. Also, make sure you're using newer splitters designed for bi-directional data. The CATV wiring in our house is old RG5 vs better RG6 but everything works fine including CATV on the same cable lines as our MoCA data.

Pros
  • Supports 270Mbps full PHY speed/175Mbps data rate. Products with "Fast Ethernet" cannot reach this speed.
Cons
  • A newer model could have been chosen
