I grew up with cassettes and CDs so I have a very clear idea of how they should look and work. So when I saw this player arrive without a CD case I was very concerned about how well it would work. However, I really liked that this player has Bluetooth and an MP3 player, so I decided to give it a try. Although I was very surprised - in a good way! The disk enters and stays close to it. Plays with no problems, Bluetooth connects perfectly and the speaker is awesome! It really delivers fantastic sound quality for a standalone player. You'll need a micro SD card to record MP3 music or audiobooks, which we didn't do, but it also has room for connecting headphones as well as Bluetooth headphones. My son replaced several Boombox CD players because they fell on the floor in his room. He sleeps better with CDs or MP3 music and my phone is constantly interrupted by various messages and alerts, so he needs a standalone player. Since we could hang it on the wall or under a shelf, there was less risk of it being damaged by the clutter in the room. However, he loves it very much and uses it every night to help him sleep. So don't let the uniqueness of the design fool you. It's smart and efficient and easier to clean.
