I know - I crave punishment, I am.

I know - I'm greedy for punishment, I know it's poorly made, I may have even bought one of the Colbys before, but there hasn't been a quality player since Sony stopped making them. I read all the reviews but there isn't much choice.

Bought for class

Love having these for my hearing center in my class. Students don't argue about who chooses the story etc. However, sometimes it can be difficult to open. You need to press the open button and pull up at the same time. I don't like them but they work for my students.

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Not trendy

Bought for SAT. Anyway, it doesn't make much sense.

I bought it for SAT listening. It's big, bulky, and there's no way to turn it off to save battery. The included headphones are terrible, so if you really want to listen to CDs on the go, you'll need your own headphones. The thing is about six inches long. It doesn't fit anywhere but in a backpack. The player keeps jumping. I would never use this given the possibility of iPods and phones.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Negative present

Depends on price . .

I bought 3 of these when they were on sale for less than $5. I use them as a listening center in my kindergarten class. Five months later, they were holding up pretty well. I use rechargeable batteries and they last all week (players probably need to use about an hour or two each week). The kids dropped one and the eject button got stuck, but I was able to get it out. They leak a bit when moving so I wouldn't recommend it for a mobile player but they were great for sitting and listening…

First disappointing COBY product.

I've always loved Coby products but this one doesn't deserve a star. This CD player is very inexpensive and runs on batteries only. It has no skip prevention function and is very sensitive to light. For continuous play, it must be protected from electric current, sunlight, lamps, lighting fixtures, lightning, rays and ambient light. I recently bought three players (at that price I thought I had a backup after dropping it a couple of times) and I've completely "used up" two players. Each died…

CD Player Review

I bought this CD player for my son's 3rd birthday. Since he's quite young, I went with one of the cheapest players, knowing that kids his age tend to lose or break items soon after they play with it for the first time. When we put the CD in the player, we found that it didn't work, but wrote "Error". We decided that the CD itself wouldn't play, so we tried another, and another, and another. Every CD we tried had an error message on the player, leading us to believe the problem was with the CD…

My brother is 56 years old and has Down's Syndrome. Listening to music is one of the highlights of his life and CDs have worked for him for years. We've always bought Sony portable CD players and they've lasted two years or more. They had great jump control and great sound. Unfortunately, its last player died, and Sony and other companies went out of the portable CD business in search of a replacement. Judging by the rating and the price, the Coby CXCD109 has emerged as the best choice. I…

Walk away in 60 minutes in portable CD players

My frugality took over. After reading most of the negative comments/reviews I should have known better not to buy this Coby CD player. However, I figured that I would only use this CD when I was sitting or lying in bed without any sudden movements; Therefore, there is no way to hack, is there? nope! The fact that this device is poorly constructed using the cheapest quality materials turns this CD into a paperweight in minutes. The buttons on this device are so terrible that after pressing the…

What I needed: Portable audio and video

Ordered despite negative reviews. It wasn't a high priority. However, it was delivered quickly and works perfectly. Use it with speakers rather than headphones, and it "matches" external speakers, so while it's only used occasionally, it's small, compact, and a good "set". Meets my needs, couldn't ask for more. I couldn't find the "hand washing" warning mentioned by another reader, but I'll do it just in case. -------------------------------------------------- -------- -------------------------

Pros
  • Good product for the price

  • Vulgarity
