The engineers really screwed it up. The size difference is significant, not nearly the same as the 7612. The exterior size is 13.735% smaller and the screen size is 11.45% smaller. If you replace the 7612 that is installed in your dashboard you will be very disappointed, 7612 with 9x13 external dimensions and 8612 with 8.5x117/8 external dimensions, this absolutely cannot be a replacement, this is ridiculous. To make matters worse, they replaced the power cord so you have to use a new cord so stiff you'll think it's a steel bar. We also need to replace the cable that goes to your second monitor. If you install this with the included freestanding bracket you will again be very disappointed: the 7612 is 6 inches tall and the 8612 is only 5 inches, the 7612 bracket is 12 7/8 inches wide and the 8612 is 11 1/4 Customs service . . Again, the engineers really screwed up when they planned to replace the 7612. Nothing even close. Instead of swapping out in an hour, plan at least day-by-day to find the cables you need and rip your boat apart so you can run new cables. If I hadn't started I should have sent it back. However, I have the 7612 set directly below, so I have two screens that are flush with each other and I wanted them to look the same. What a job to change the position of a smaller mounting bracket and then find that the cables are not the same, even the power cable. This is colossal engineering crap. I've been a Garmin enthusiast for 30 years, but that's the end.
