This is very like a model advertised on TV to exorbitant claims. Well, this lantern's claims are not spectacular. But it does everything they say and does it well. The lantern feature puts out a surprising amount of light. For the record, this light has the new "cob" technology. I have not tried the older style so cannot say if it is really that much better, only that it's good. We have a good size living room roughly 20'x20' square. This will light it up to be able to do just about any task you'd care to though you'd have to be close to read by it. The flashlight is pretty good to. It is not zoomable like many lights are but is well designed to compensate for that. There is a generous cone of light for close in illumination and a solid spot that reaches out a good distance. Far enough for me to see anything going on at my barn from the house, a distance of about 60-70yds. There is a carry handle/strap that is removable and can be fixed to lie along the length of the device or strapped across the back of it. I like this last for flashlight carry. I think having a dual supply of this version with the one with the flashlight end on hand is a good idea, and I have done this. In all, I am so impressed with this thing I will be getting more to keep on hand for emergency use.
