Review on Bi-Directional Optical to Coaxial and Coaxial to Optical SPDIF Toslink Digital Audio Converter Splitter Adapter by Tendak by John Bailey

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Solid build and great sound

I was so pleased with the quality of this unit that I also ordered the HDMI ARC audio extractor. The device does exactly what it is supposed to and does it very well. I placed it between the Apple AirPort Express optical output, a homemade Arduino Nano IR wake-up solution, and the amplifier's coaxial input. When the AirPort Express is activated via AirPlay2, the optical signal is distributed to the Arduino Nano's optical sensor and my Marantz HD-AMP1 coax input. As a result, the Arduino will automatically wake up the amp and switch the input to coaxial. I used to use a Y-split optical cable, but I could hear some jitter caused by this piece. Tendak no longer has this problem. I am very happy with this purchase. YMMV, and thanks for reading. ***Update: After a week of use, I noticed that the transmitter's optical output indicator does not turn off after the optical input is disabled. The light stays on even though nothing is playing. If you're just converting signals then you shouldn't care, but it made this device unusable for my application. One star deducted because the sound quality is otherwise good. If you're just converting signals then you shouldn't care, but it made this device unusable for my application.
