We bought two pairs of these beautiful shoes in two different sizes for our twins. You've always been medium. Judging by the way they sit on both girls I recommend going down a size! I know, very unusual for girls shoes! You and/or your child will need patience and extra time to attach without Velcro. I only gave them 3 stars because I would give 5 stars for the quality, decorative style and smaller heel for an 8 year old. old but as the sizing is not true to size I would only give the fit 1 star. All in all, don't give them up! Just know you need to downsize and don't expect your kid to be able to close them by themselves.
