My husband's biggest argument against getting the kitten I was begging for was his disdain for stepping on the litter box. My pleading puppy eyes didn't convince him, but when he finally gave in to my relentless plea, these rugs were one of my first purchases. Our beloved child is TRUK, whose favorite hobby is throwing his trash (and sometimes other things) as far as possible. In combination with the open cat litter, it was absolutely impossible to control the litter spread by our new furry monster. We soon switched to an indoor litter box and there was little improvement, but still we felt the agony of random litter between our bare feet and the hardwood floor every morning. We ended up pulling the trigger and creating a cool dome shell with steps designed to reduce the spread of dirt and eventually the dirt is collected. So yes, these mats will catch about 70% of dirt, but only when laid with a comparable set of dirt. Every week or two I take them outside and take my anger out on them with a vigorous shake and maybe a broomstick. It doesn't remove 100% of the junk, but enough to be called clean. I've only had one instance where a small #2 nugget got pushed into the carpets and I was able to adequately wipe it off with toilet paper. I'm afraid if someone urinates on it or if number 2 dries on it it will be a lot harder to clean, but I'm not worried about that bridge until I get there. I find them affordable enough to replace when needed and efficient enough to use with any of my tablets. The performance is on par with other versions of this type of product and the price is right so I would recommend it to anyone dealing with a litter box. Edit - My husband's existence curse recently vomited onto one of the rugs. . The paper towel wiping method made me puke, so I hung them over the bathtub, turned on the jets, and blew out the disgust. I let it dry there and when I recalled it a few hours later everything was back to normal. Don't be afraid of the semi-hard!
