Not the easiest to install

I ordered these about a year ago, they finally got around to installing them over Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. You have to make sure you install them 180° apart on the inside of the high hat. Also, you can install them with the clip, facing down or up depending on how level your high hat is I install them about one and a half inches from the edge of the receptacle. I had to drill a small pilot hole. That was actually the most difficult part in retrofitting our recessed lighting.I got myself a spring loaded center hole punch from Home Depot. That made a small dimple on the inside of the receptacle. Then I drilled a small pilot hole through which I could insert the machine screw and C clip. From there, it was a matter of installing the LED kit which I had done before in our basement with newer high hats. It already had the clips in place.Once I got the hang of it, it took me about 5 to 10 minutes per receptacle to retrofit. The keys are to make sure that your holes are 180° apart on the inside of the receptacle, and that you have either a pilot hole or a nice dimple in place for your machine screw to gain purchase.

Pros
  • Perfect for retrofit projects
Cons
  • May not provide enough support if the bulb or fixture is heavy and needs to be moved frequently
