I bought this for my children (5 and 7 years old). We made the candles right away, it was fun but took 10 minutes max. You stack the wax granules to create multicolored layers and prick with the included stick to create a pattern, that's all. We haven't found any other ways to use materials creatively. The containers are fairly small (the smallest is like a shot glass, the other two are slightly larger) and the instructions were a little vague, especially on trimming the wick. Maybe we left it too long, when it was first lit only the wick was burning and the wax didn't start to melt or burn. But with a little fiddling with the match, I was able to burn out all the candles. After they've burned through a bit, the top part melts away, leaving a hard layer of wax. And then over the next few days they made beautiful additions to our breakfast and dinner tables.
