Aluminum with sharp corners. They had to be rounded and smoothed. The edges are sharp. Aluminum requires a 10 degree cut and a slight overhang for a good fit. The rubber isn't made for 2X wood and I didn't bother attaching it too much by changing the 2X end. When using aluminum, the tailgate really doesn't have enough grip. And the angle of the aluminum part doesn't even match my shorter truck. Most people drive short beds. If I cut my lumber to fit an 8ft platform the angle might be right, but most trucks have a short platform (mine is "standard") and most trucks are taller than mine . Therefore, most truck owners will be worse off with them.
