Fragmenting ends

The ends of these dowels are messed up. They are not smooth and they really do splinter. They are sold as a cake but I think bits of wood will come loose in the cake. I would put them in your cake like this. I'll try cutting the end off to see if it splits, but the quality doesn't look like it will succeed. upset.
