You can really see the quality of this blanket. It has double stitching, a good average weight and an overall nice coloration. While subjective, it's not overly scratchy, but it's soft and, as another reviewer mentioned, about as scratchy as a wool sweater. After airing, the smell is gone, but not entirely unpleasant. It reminded me of an old barn or farmhouse, a natural smell as opposed to a chemical smell which I personally liked. It's also quite large, with an almost too big overhang over the bed. That's why I bought the blue stripe. The photos advertised are horribly misleading which is a shame for a company with such a high quality product. (And it's odd that nobody else has commented on the difference). Still a nice paint job in its own right, the blue stripe color was a HUGE disappointment compared to what I was expecting. I then bought a gray plaid hoping it would better match the color scheme I had in mind, but this one was worse. The gray plaid had a yellowish sheen. It was also of a different quality, a MUCH lighter blanket, softer, odorless which makes me wonder if it was the correct wool blend it was supposed to be. Possibly defective or counterfeit. It definitely wasn't the blue striped blanket I got and it wasn't worth the price. I ended up with a blue streak, although I'm still disappointed with the color. Don't get me wrong the color is beautiful but I was really hoping it would look like the photos in the ad. Provided you get the same quality blanket as the blue striped blanket I received, for the price this is an amazing quality rug that is washable, has no pilling or shedding issues and doesn't have an overwhelming chemical smell that cheaper rugs have. While I would definitely recommend this blanket, just be aware of the advertised color issue and the possibility of the occasional (or not) quality control issue.
