Review on Peak Design SlideLITE SLL-1 Camera Strap - Black: Perfect for Mirrorless Cameras by Chris Russell

Ideal Strap

Very impressed with this product. I spent a lot of time looking for the perfect carrying strap for my Olympus OM-1 E-M1 (with 12-40 2.8 PRO lens) while hiking or walking around town. I looked at Joby, Blackrapid and Focus straps and ended up arguing between Peak Design Leash and Slide. Luckily, this strap was the perfect size for my mirrorless camera (Leash would be too narrow and Slide would be too wide/bulky). Here are my positive impressions: Blackrapid Sling straps only have 1 point of contact between the sling and the camera, so it always resonates with your walking impulse. This increases the risk of damaging the camera and is uncomfortable with a £2 camera hitting you at every step. The Peak Design belt family has 2 contact points. On my EM-1 I keep one on the right camera bar and the other on the mounting plate on the bottom of the camera. This allows my lens to look down instead of sticking out perpendicular to your body. The net effect is that the camera stays firm and conforms to my body, and that's key to its design - very comfortable when I wear it for the first time. I'll update my review when I get out and use it more - the SlideLITE has rubber "rails" on one side for more grip. They don't have a very good grip, but they prevent the camera from shaking violently when you bend over. The other side of the belt slides very smoothly, maybe even smoother than seat belts they often compare the material to. The length of the strap is easily adjustable and will keep the length. The plastic clasp makes a reassuring clicking sound as the band snaps into place. Comes with 4 anchor cords (2 for each camera) so you can swap strap between two cameras in seconds. This makes it an easily "interchangeable" camera strap. The anchor lines are 3-ply and let you know when it's time to replace them by changing color to yellow or red. his claims that he can withstand 200 pounds of force. Things that could be improved: - The anchor cords are relatively thick and require an intermediate adapter or grommet to hook onto your native camera (the anchor cords don't fit my Sony RX100's tiny grommets, but when I put them on, it fits one case) - price. But what does an extra €50 that you invest in your camera hobby mean? No padding. I'll update the review once I've worn it for a few hours. I want to combine this with the capture clip once I have enough money to do it.
