I bought these on the advice of a Reddit user who mentioned that Schola Gladiatoria's Matt Easton uses them. I have to say they are as good as I could have expected. The outsole is plain and has no traction; all good attributes for HEMA shoes. With frequent training, sneakers or just ordinary sneakers quickly tear due to the sudden movements of the fencer from side to side. Composite soles of regular shoes peel off too quickly as they adhere much better to modern floors. If you exercise a lot outdoors, they may be too slippery on wet grass or other wet surfaces. Otherwise it's exactly what I was hoping for and they appear to be made from quality materials. I expect they will last a year and can handle repairs for another year.
