Review on ๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ Efficient Monochrome Laser Printer: Lexmark MB2236adw with Wireless Networking & Duplex Printing by Paul Wall

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great little printer aside from a few inconvenient bugs

I expected the printout to work out of the box, but there is one issue that ruins the whole experience. If you connect via WiFi and make all settings, you will receive the error message "The SMTP server is not configured. Contact your system administrator" and a solid red blinking light on the right side of the printer control panel. I followed all the connection steps correctly and had to spend several hours to find the problem online. After not finding a solution in the manuals or on the web, I decided to email Lexmark. It turns out that you need to connect to the printer via a web browser to disable a specific setting for this error to go away. This annoyed me a lot as I spent almost half a day trying to understand the issue. The printer works fine without resolving this error, but the red light and the error on the screen keep blinking which can be annoying. I think Lexmark's software developers should have enabled this default printer option right away so customers didn't have to go through these extra steps. The last bug I found is the power button light. There is a slight flickering on my device that can be seen from a distance. It's also a bit annoying, at least for me. I've attached a video of the problem. Not sure if all units are like this or just mine. Now for the good. This printer looks great. I love the aesthetic and someone complimented me when they saw it next to my desk. It looks modern and I prefer white and light colors over dark plastic printers that sometimes look very ugly in real life. The printer is very compact for a multifunction printer. The print quality is excellent from what I saw on the sheet. When you load paper in the tray, it sticks out about an inch from the back of the printer to fit the standard letter size, keep this in mind. If Lexmark hasn't programmed printers to display an SMTP error by default and if the busy light isn't flickering, I would give it a higher rating. TIP: To resolve the SMTP error, you must press the Wrench button on the printer control panel > Reports > OK > Network > OK > Network Setup Page > OK. This will print out the IP address of the printer you need. The IP address is at the top of the printed page. Now go to a web browser on your computer that is on the same network as the printer, type that IP address in the address bar and press Enter. The Embedded Web Server or printer software should appear. Under Settings, click Email and enable the Disable SMTP Server Not Configured error. Click the "Save" button. You are hired. This annoying bug goes away, as does the dreaded flashing red light.
