I've read many reviews about the Netgear CM700 and possible problems with the Intel Puma 6 chipset. Many online reviews of this cable modem point to problems with dropouts and jitter. I called Netgear Tech Support and was told these issues were fixed with firmware updates and are no longer valid. I bought a Netgear CM700 cable modem and I can tell you it's great. Don't be put off by online reviews that are 1-2 years old. After doing some research, I found that one of the biggest issues with latency and slow web browsing is related to the default DNS server provided by my ISP. I changed our DNS server settings to Google Public DNS and the difference was like night and day. Although an internet speed test might show similar results, using Google's public DNS settings made web browsing faster, with websites loading almost instantly. Still very happy with Netgear CM700 with Puma 6 chipset.
