Review on AFA Tooling Truck and Trailer Ramp Kit: Effortlessly Load Lawn Mower, ATV, and More using 2 x 8 Lumber Ramp by Monty Barganier

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works exactly as expected but you need 10 screws which you don't get.

I ordered these because my alternator was very difficult to lift into a pickup truck when I took it for service and I wanted it to be easier to unload when I brought it back. I have read previous reviews and concerns. and I don't think there are any issues other than missing screws for the rubber feet and lack of clarity/images for assembly; the only reason I got 4 stars. First I used Lowe's plain 2X8X8 rough pine boards (Home Depot didn't stock them). Treated wood is impregnated and too heavy; no oak found. Sorted and selected boards were in good condition - no knots or cracks. The fit to the aluminum profile was excellent. There is no need to make cuts or bevels on the panel. The edge that touches the end of the panel is flush and is pressed into the panel under load, leaving no gap. I recommend skipping the pencil and just using the aluminum as the jig for drilling. After drilling the first 5/16" hole, insert the screw and drill the second hole to align the assembly perfectly. There really aren't enough fasteners for rubber feet. They supply weird pins and I suspect they want you to drill tight holes and push those pins into the rubber valves but that seems like nonsense. Look for a thicker rubber tab at the bottom (towards the pavement) and a thinner tab at the top. . Place the rubber at the end of the board accordingly, then install it on the truck tailgate in the ramp position. Then, while it's still in the ground, tap the rubber on the edge of the board with a hammer. This helps to "settle" the rubber properly into the board (you don't want any slippage or play under load). I then used three (3) 1" coated wood screws and screwed the top rubber flap onto the wood. There is a wide channel for this. Flip and install 2 screws on the bottom cover; I only used two (2) to make a to avoid aligning with the top screws. Used the ramps tonight and they were amazing. Very stable and confidence inspiring. There is a slight flex but nothing to worry about. So glad I used these for the have future use. Only $17 in wood plus this kit. Very satisfied.
