Review on Effortless Dust-Free Vacuum Sanding with ๐Ÿ”ฒ Hyde Tools 09165 6-Foot Drywall Hand Hose Sander by Tres Carmon

Works well with some flaws

Picks up almost 100% dust. In that respect it works perfectly. But the supplied hose was torn right at the plug when I unpacked it. Since this tool doesn't require a perfect seal (actually it's good to let off some of the suction otherwise it'll be too hard to move the grinder), I just taped the hose and used it as is. I also contacted Hyde and they sent me a replacement tube with no problem which was nice. However, the replacement is just as fragile and looks like it's about to break in the same spot. The hose will need to be redesigned and made out of something more flexible, or otherwise connected to the coupling so it doesn't tear as easily. Another question is what this grinder is good for. Abrasive screens are only really good for coarse sanding, not final sanding, as they tend to leave lines and grooves. Collecting the coarse sanding dust is great, but pointless if you have to switch to a regular sander to get a fine sanding. There are several alternative abrasives that will work with this, but they are not widely available. You have to order them online and they are expensive. Joest makes perforated sandpaper that you can use with this one. You can also use Mirka Abranet, which is similar to a sanding grid but suitable for the final sanding. In fact, Hyde delivers Abranet in a box with their high-end vacuum grinders. Ultimately, due to problems with the hoses and a lack of readily available abrasive for the finishing touches, I broke down and bought a Wen Power Sander. This has its own issues and doesn't collect as much dust as this one, but leaves a nice look on the wall. If I were to do this over and over again knowing what I know now I would buy one of the high end Hyde vacuum grinders and some Mirka and/or Joest abrasives for it and this little grinder and this electric one Throw away the grinder entirely.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
