I really don't know why. My tech friends helped me choose, and the cable internet installer said it was the best option, so for all that very valuable tech info you need, go elsewhere. These 3 people know their stuff and say this is the router that gives you the best bang for your buck. Let me tell you why I like him: 1) He's really handsome - no, I'm not kidding. The lights are all blue, gloss and black with a nice etched finish. It's not an ugly box on my shelf. 2) It works great. We can access our wireless network anywhere in the house (the house is quite large and oddly shaped - some areas were never used to work with the old router), in the yard. I really don't know where it ends. Haven't tried outside yet! It doesn't matter how many of us use the internet, our phones, Roku etc etc. This router didn't miss a beat. MUCH BETTER THAN MY OLD ONE in that regard! 3) A baby monkey could set it up for you. It's insanely easy. There's also a wall mount that offers better coverage in one direction than the other. I suggest you try that first. It works so well that I can't imagine it really takes any effort. But if you do, they will have your back! UPDATE: July 2014 I still love this router. I recently had problems with someone trying to hack into my life through a router. TOTALLY MY MISTAKE! Like I said, I'm not technically savvy. I didn't update the firmware (because I didn't know such things existed), I didn't change the default admin page settings (because I didn't know the controls were set to "there"). I was wide open, but the router didn't let me down. The lack of the latest 12 firmware updates and my ignorance have let me down! I've seen reviews of this router (I went back to get the exact model number while working on my problem) reporting security issues and poor tech support. I say WRONG! Tech support is there and they have been very helpful and patient with my ignorance! I had to contact them 3 times to get through everything. The third time they were just as nice and just as helpful. A week has passed, I haven't had a single problem like the ones I had before. By the way, if I didn't have an antivirus on my computer, I'd probably be in a lot of trouble right now. One or more of them (I installed three. This is my LIFE!) caught every redirect and removed the nasty hosts files that warned me of a problem. Have fun and safe surfing with this still AMAZING router from a TOP supported company!
