I have a garden outside the home that is too far away for electricity. I needed an electric fence to keep the critters out and a water pump. I have some solar panels that a friend gave me, so I decided to build my own little solar power station. I ordered one of those cheap Chinese made charge controllers to save a few bucks. Well that was a mistake. This thing was DOA and looked like a piece of junk. The instructions were in Chinglish. I decided I needed a better controller so I did some research and came across the SunSaver on a sailing website. I figured if it could handle the salt water it would weather the storm and be reliable. Since it was cheaper at Revain, I ordered it here. It's connected to three 40-watt panels that deliver 7.5 amps. I have a deep cycle battery that charges it. There is a 12 volt fence charger that connects to the battery and a 12 volt water pump that I connect to the battery when I need to water. I installed it a month ago and it works perfectly. I encourage anyone looking for a solar charger to pay a few dollars more and get a quality product like the SunSaver. It's worth it. Update: It's spring now and my controller is still working. It was plugged in all winter to -37F and worked perfectly. It is mounted outdoors under solar panels. It doesn't look any worse when worn. Update: It survived another harsh winter outside and is still working! Update: 3 years and older still works like a charm
