I have occasional insomnia - I usually get a good night's sleep but sometimes wake up for a few days to a week in the middle up in the night and just can't get back to sleep. A friend recommended that I try 5-HTP, so I bought this product. I've only used it a few times but I think it helps. After a particularly bad night I take this before I go the next night to try and break the cycle before it becomes a week long ordeal. It doesn't always work the first night, but it definitely works the following nights. I have a FitBit HR so I can track my sleep cycles and have found that this product also helps me get a more balanced night's sleep, with deeper, faster sleep than usual. So this product is not necessarily a quick fix, but for me it is a healthy and effective solution.
