Review on Learning Resources Gizmos Building Pieces by Jayt Shields

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Funny, creative and educational. (and no batteries required =))

I bought this to complement the Gears learning resources! Transmission! Transmission! Super set (150 items) <link below> for my 4 year old son. He was 3 years old when I bought the Super Set. The parts are very well made and durable. The Super Set (link above) is perfect for a 3 year old. This gave him a lot of gear and it was easy for him to learn how to use/create new setups. In the super set, all gears are the same standard size. Therefore, it is very easy for a three-year-old to understand and build things that interact by default. I would recommend starting with the super set if this is your child's first set. I would also consider buying a superset in combination with Gizmos and Gears so you have lots of parts to build with. Now that my son is a year older and has experience with the base set (he's played with it a lot over the last year - and beyond), we decided to expand it with the Gizmos and Gears set. The Gizmos and Gears introduces two new gear sizes (medium and large) and three new base plate sizes. It also introduces several new 'substances'. For example, two connecting springs are supplied, which you can use to connect the centers of two different gears in different planes or in different orientations (e.g. orthogonal to each other). When the pinion rotates, torque is generated in the spring, and the second spring rotates with a slight delay. Other gizmos include a propeller and some new creative structural elements. The Gizmo and Gears set gives children a good hands-on experience with machines. You will develop a natural intuition about the effect of gear ratios (a small gear drives a large gear or vice versa) and begin to understand the concept of gear backlash (how much you can turn a drive gear before a range of tolerances result in motion ). / Strength throughout the chain of gears), learn to be creative and invent your own "machines" etc. while having fun. I find it interesting to watch my son concentrate on building and experimenting with different mechanisms. With different sized gears in the set, he must figure out what structural elements to use to ensure proper meshing. Sometimes when he wants to add new gear, he has to remove existing ones so he can physically install the new one. Then he has to replace the originals. This is a great experience that will help him understand how things work and build/fix things in the future. Nothing compares to learning. There are things you learn by playing with physical objects that you will never learn on a tablet or smartphone app. It is also a great opportunity for parents to play with their children. My son often wants us to play with him and help him build new "cars" or proudly show us his new car and ask us to drive it. an addition to the Super Set I mentioned earlier in the review. The Gizmo's and Gears set also works well as a standalone set. The first night my son used it, it was standalone and not yet paired with his other devices. The number of parts in the set is somewhat limited. So if your child enjoys playing with it, you can expand the set with a second gizmo and mechanism, a super set, or any of the other expansion sets you can find. to Raven. I see that this set will be interesting for children of all ages. My son is 4 years old but I can see him playing with it like Lego for years.
