My dead and now replaced boot dryer was silent and always warm, which was really nice. I didn't know there was a difference, as that was my first and only one before. This one is NOT silent, but it's not too too loud. It dries warm, but doesn't stay warm after shutoff. However, compared to the slow and silent dryer which I loved and was used to, this one is FAST! With four kids and all those snowboots (and other shoes in the puddles all summer), that is the most amazing feature! They can play outside in the morning, and ALL of their boots are dry and ready to go again after nap! I'm not used to the fan noise in the corner, but for the speed for all of those sets of boots and shoes, it's pretty amazing.
