By-pass valve contamination and I/O thread leaks

In my opinion, this product has two very serious problems of workmanship and design. 1) the bypass valve is clogged with blue plastic shavings (flavor issue) and 2) the inlet and outlet threads are leaking (plumbing issue). The thread design may not sufficiently consider the properties of plastic injection molding. In my opinion, the chief engineer is to blame for this drop in product quality and likewise all ISO quality certifications should be revoked pending investigation and corrective action. In my opinion, products sold and existing stock should be recalled due to contamination concerns. While customers can fix both problems, a water filtration device shouldn't require decontamination or extreme installation effort. In my opinion, a company like duPont should be recognized for their superior quality, not the poor quality that this product exhibits. CONTAMINATION SOLUTION Open and close the bypass valve several times to loosen the plastic shavings. With the bypass valve open and closed, flush all passages in both directions until all plastic debris is removed. Wash all filter components with soapy water and preferably with a suitable flexible cylindrical brush. CLEARING LEAKS When installing the pipe adapters to the inlet and outlet threads of the filter head, follow the instructions on the product and apply Tru-Blu Vibration Resistant Pipe Sealant to the threads. Pipe male thread 3-4 male thread and optional pipe male thread 2-3 female thread. Use the wrench to tighten. Remove excess pipe thread sealant. Let the knot dry overnight. FINAL ASSEMBLY Remove the o-ring from the clear body, apply a thin film of petroleum jelly to the dry o-ring and replace. Apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly to the mating surface of the valve head o-ring. Install a filter. Screw the clear tip onto the valve head and HAND-TIGHT. DO NOT use a filter wrench to tighten.
