Overall it was a good product if you can avoid the shortcomings described here. The drill was fine. Drilling wasn't difficult. Getting the hole in the right spot wasn't easy because if you haven't done it before you don't know how far the water on the tank box will go. I thought I knew where it would be but found I was about 3/8 inch off. The water level was much higher than I thought. There's really no way to turn the level down when you have it too. high and I actually drilled with the resulting water level being too high for my comfort. Read some previous people's experiences on some forums and you should be fine. Most seem to drill too deep - that's probably better than too to dig deep like me. You may need a longer PVC than the red ones they include to make the overflow completely silent. You should include a 1" screen for the bottom outlet of the outer box to ensure your pipe is clear of anything that might clog it. I'm not sure if this is really necessary, but I would recommend it. Next thing is that the instructions are poor and don't tell you where the shims actually need to be. When water first got in after a few leaks, I overtightened one of the nuts, thinking I just didn't tighten it enough, and the nut broke. I then had to reinstall the box so I could put the new nut on. Luckily I had filled one after the other. Bad instructions were to blame here. If I were to use this product again as far as I know now I wouldn't have these issues but buyers should know that if you are an experienced tank driller and plumber this is a good product and if not you can try to find it some help. A few simple instructions and troubleshooting tips would be invaluable as almost everyone seems to have the same problems and solutions. Once things are going well I'd say definitely do that and not the pipe over the top overflow. If you can drill, do it. I've tried it and it was a huge pain compared to all the trying to adjust the flow to avoid bubbles in the pipe and even then you always worry about losing the siphon during a power outage. Last thing I would highly recommend is drilling for return as well. I use a whistle at the top for returns and while fully functional and failsafe it is a minor eyesore and if I could do it again I would make a return through the glass. I hope this helps anyone who is thinking of doing this for their next or new aquarium. Was going to give it 3 stars because the instructions are criminally sloppy, but overall it's a good product, only marred by instructions that you might just not look at when you can get help from somewhere else. For this reason I put 4.
