I have bought 3 of these units and now there is only one left before I realize the voltage requirements are critical or the unit fails, shorting out U2 and possibly causing other components I have to fail. Not checked. Neither smoke nor fire just stop working together. To prevent this I added a voltage reducer from 12V to 9.5V DC. The project I added this tachometer to is a home made home generator system using various components from Harbor. 670cc V-twin cargo engine I converted to propane through US Carburetion Inc and a 10,000 watt generator head from Tool Equipment. The first speedometer I installed worked fine until I added the motor charging circuit. Then the device failed almost immediately. I checked everything in the circuit and didn't find any problems, so I added a second block and it failed just like the first one. I checked the output voltage of the charging circuit and it shows 13.5V to 14V when the engine is running and charging a truck sized battery. After turning on the voltage reducer, I had no other problem that caused the tachometer to fail. Now I use the third block. .If anyone had a part number for the U2 or even a genuine replacement I might be able to fix the other two faulty tachometers.
