Doesn't work: Computers and accessories

So I got this as a quick and easy way to access the internet upstairs without running ethernet cables and cheaper than moca. I figured I wouldn't get full internet speed with this device, and that's okay, but I was optimistic. I have Internet 100Mb / 10Mb from the provider. I usually get 85-95MB down and 7-8MB when testing wired speeds. With the EoP device connected with the included cables, I only got 30-40 megabytes of input and 4-6 megabytes of input. I looked at the cables and they are labeled CAT 5 which doesn't seem right at all as the device says 1 gigabyte/1000 megabytes why would they include cables that are only 100 megabytes capable. I mean I might be able to see Category 5e but figured it would come with Category 6 cables. I mean you can't even find category 5 cables for sale. And even with category 5 cables, I should have done better than 40 megapixel cables. So I tested Wi-Fi 2.4Hz, I got 50MB. Then I tested 5 GHz WiFi and got 60 megabytes. Which led me to conclude that the included cables are rubbish. So I bought 5 packs of category 6 cables, plugged them in, tested the cabling again and got 70 megabytes. Yes, it's still not quite the 85+ I see below, but a hell of a lot better than the 40 megabytes I got with the cables that came with it. Maybe they'd work better if they weren't stacked so tightly that they fit in the package, but let's face it, Category 5 cables shouldn't have been in this product at all. ----- Edit: Changed from 4 stars to 1 star. So, despite the cheap cables that came with the kit and poor performance, it is very convenient to use. Unfortunately it didn't last. After 3 days using it to work from home my speed dropped to 1.5 megabytes downstream, strangely it was still 6 megabytes upstream, it happened just after lunch so I quickly started troubleshooting , checked home connection connected to another computer which was fine , unplugged/plugged ethernet cable no change then I unplugged and plugged back the extra upstairs box and bam it reconnects at 30mb . Next morning I go to work, same problem, same solution. After lunch (after 4 hours) same problem and fixed. The next day I just started the morning unplugging and plugging it back in without checking. Same problem after dinner. So now this junk is back. I went ahead and spent some extra money on some Moca gear to use the existing coax in my house, which I had to do twice as much to start with, but I get 95 megabytes on my Moca network.

Pros
  • Very good value
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
