Review on πŸ’Ύ Efficient Data Storage: Western Digital 8TB EASYSTORE External HDD (WDBCKA0080HBK-NESN) by Demond Clenney

Revainrating 1 out of 5

1 out of 6 isn't bad, wait, yes it is.

(Please note that I am a storage R&D engineer and am constantly dealing with various storage devices and issues, so I test my own hardware. I am currently running and testing over 50TB of storage and I do that every day.) These rides used to be a fantastic business. hard drive you have. Then WD decided to cut corners. Then more corners. They started shipping white label drives (instead of NAS class drives), then drive integrity errors started. The last two I got (I prefer to use the same types of devices rather than having a hodgepodge from different vendors) were both DOA, with misaligned USB pins so bad you couldn't even do that supplied USB cable. The image I am attaching to this review may be difficult to see, but the USB connector inside the drive case is faulty. All in all, only the very first CD I received (out of 6) actually worked. with every stability and reliability. Unless you plan to spin the roulette wheel and buy one of these to see if you can rip out a WD Red drive and stick it in your own NAS box, I'd avoid them like the plague.
