Extreme air cooling for your CPU

Conclusion Recommendation: Buy if it fits. Your processor will perform MUCH better at a lower temperature. Why I bought it: About once a week my computer would shut down because the CPU overheated to 70C. I had a heavy load on ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+ AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8 Core 4.0 GHz (G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) 240-pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866). I have not overclocked. Results: When I cycled 2 of the 8 cores on and off, my standard fan couldn't keep the CPU below 70 degrees C for more than a few minutes and the computer shut down due to overheating. With the Noctua fan, I ran 7 cores in about 10 minutes and the CPU temperature never went above 49°C. And now the fan is MUCH quieter. I can barely hear it turning while the old fan often hummed like a jet engine. What I like: The temperature of my heavy load has dropped from 70°C to 49°C. Much quieter than the stock CPU cooler fan. My stock fan roared under load; this fan hardly whispers. English instructions were easy to follow. Easy to install by one person despite its size. The installer included everything I needed, including a heatsink. Air cooling so I'm not worried about leaks. Air-cooled, so the only maintenance required is dust removal with a vacuum cleaner. Excellent compatibility information on the Noctua website. Excellent upfront tech support: I emailed my motherboard, chip and RAM to Noctua support and they responded quickly with what device would fit. Six year guarantee. Unlocks overclocking. Fits in my 43mm high RAM with plenty of space. What I don't like: It's big: It's too tall for me to close the case leaving the internal case fan in place. It fits when I remove the case fan. What I didn't do: Test it on a water-cooled system. With such results, why bother and risk a leak?
