I have a MagFloat seaweed scraper that has two magnetized parts. You glue the bristle part to the inside of the tank and use the other part on the outside to slide over it. It works great with the soft algae I had in my tanks until recently when I started getting this very hard green stuff. Mag-Float didn't cut it no matter how many passes I made. I was looking for something with a blade and this scraper fitted the bill. It's not as high-tech as Mag-Float, but sometimes simplicity is better. It comes with three interchangeable and interchangeable blades. One made of felt, one made of plastic and one made of metal. The metal blade isn't sharp, so I'm not worried about it scratching my tank. peel off everything. I changed the metal blade and BAM! Green algae started flying into the water. It only took me a few minutes to clean out my 40 gallon tank. Some of the hits I saw before buying: 1) The surface area of the blade isn't big enough so it takes a long time to clean. Tank. I have found that this is not true at all. Although the surface is quite small, you move it like an ice scraper on a car window. It took very little time to clean my tank. 2.) The handle is weak, making it difficult to squeeze hard enough to clean. I didn't think so either. I had some nice looking seaweed and with the metal blade it didn't take much pressure to remove it. I would recommend buying this a little longer than you think you need. If your tank is 2 feet deep and you buy the 24 inch version, remember that the distance from the blade to the end of the handle is 24 inches. You want your hand out of the water. My tank is 24 inches deep top to bottom. I wish I had a longer model, but the 24-inch model does the job well. I bought this for one of my four tanks with those green hard algae. Brown algae in my other tanks are fairly easy to remove with Mag-Float, but if I had to do it all over again I'd probably just buy a Kent Pro-Scraper. in my other tanks and it still outperforms the MagFloat I had. Also, the Mag Float has a pad on the outer half that is so worn down from cleaning the algae that it's difficult to remove. The Kent Marine Scraper is much stronger and easier to use. You can apply more pressure than the magnet will allow, and I think a metal blade actually works better than the rough finish on Mag Float (remember the Velcro part). If you have a glass tank I think all you need is a metal blade and it should last almost forever. I couldn't be happier with this product.
