As I own a 701 Powermatic bench machine I decided to match the groove with bits of the same "high end" brand. Disappointment. The shank of the pick is 0.006-0.007 smaller than the socket on the machine. The socket is a fairly accurate 3/4 hole. The chisel wobbles very noticeably in the socket. Machine. And yes, I use a spacer to prevent the drill bit from touching the bit. unbearable even though it felt wrong. The next step would be a new homemade perfect socket for bad "high end" bits and everything should run smoothly from there. An even bigger disappointment is the lack of response from Powermatic support. After a phone call , I'm still waiting over a week for "Jack, Customer Service Representative" to contact me. I also submitted a case (#00145492) to the company online and am still waiting for a response in 5 days. Powermatic was marketed to me as a high-end brand with excellent customer service. Interesting? a matching socket for the failing bits themselves. So if you have the know-how to make the best hub and want to spend time on your lathe, choose a lathe and bits. If not, you should look for a better solution. For future purchases I'll probably stay away from the Powermatic if I need precision. Claus Schneider
