I bought the Rapid because I needed a truly waterproof bag that doubles as a comfortable travel backpack. In my search I settled on two packs: Rapid and Patagonia Stormfront Rolltop Pack 30L. The main differences are: a similar belt and suspension design that uses an external, permanently attached frame sheet to provide structure and rigidity, but the Rapid frame sheet is full-length. The Stormfront frame has a gap in the middle of the back. * Stormfront is made from a denser and stiffer material than Rapid (800 denier nylon with a waterproof coating on both sides of the fabric versus 420 denier nylon with a waterproof lining laminated on the inside). face) Although both packs are roughly the same price, I chose the Rapid because it has many backpacker-friendly features, like external mesh pockets, bladder mount for hydration, and a Hypalon lash loop, and its flexible material makes everyone more comfortable . - Day trip. I wish the Rapid had welds as the sewn and soldered seams aren't as strong as the welds, but Sea to Summit has a lifetime warranty so I'm (hopefully) protected if one of the seams starts to leak. I also want the bottom of the pack to be a higher denier material or have a double layer of fabric for durability in the high stress area of the pack. Overall, the Rapid performed well. I wore it in heavy downpours and everything in the backpack stayed completely dry. However, the shoulder straps will absorb some water and will take several hours to fully dry. The harness is easily adjustable and is comparable to that of alpine backpacks, except for the chest strap, which is slotted and only has four possible positions, and the waist strap, which is a bit minimal for a 26 liter pack. Also, the roll top works best when the package is at least half full. If the package is empty or contains only a few items, the flap folds may come off easily after the package is closed. Conclusion: Rapid combines comfort and performance. No more fiddling around with rain jackets and garbage bags on wet ventures!
