My first encounter with Re-Fresh was when I received the leftover bottle from someone escaping a reef aquarium hobby. However, Re-Fresh saved my aquarium from a major disappointment after a strange white slimy bacterial growth developed in the new tank. In summary, airborne molecules of alcohol (ethanol) can mix with the bacteria in the tank and provide the nourishment needed to trigger this annoying condition. This new tank is a breeding tank kept in a cellar conveniently located next to where I have the wine I make. stable and consistent. When I work with the wine a bit and start noticing stringy white slimy bacteria, the addition of Re-Fresh stops them and then functionally absorbs them with enzymes that have not caused any side effects in my aquarium. Re-Fresh was added weekly and it took about a month to resolve the issue, but the next day there were signs of progress. I am very impressed with the performance of the product, although consistently using it just for fun is expensive in my opinion. When it comes to carbonated water in a saltwater or reef aquarium, I have found that my protein skimmer handles it very well. But for this alcohol and bacteria problem, Re-Fresh was amazing and worked like a charm.
