Great on the outside, not so good on the inside.
I have an old Carhartt thermal underwear, it's the best thing in the world. As a base layer, the outside offers sub-zero comfort, while the inside is breathable and extremely comfortable. It's not the shirt. Comfortable on the outside, rather miserable on the inside unless you sit still. I would rate them slightly above average as thermal underwear. My old Carhartt base layers are like nothing I've ever owned. The quality was excellent and I wanted to live in it in Chicago during the winter. This power stuff is a big downgrade in my experience. Still better than most, but that's about it.
