updated. This 27" ASUS monitor was a compromise product for me. I needed something quick that was supplied by my local retailer. I didn't want to spend too much, but I also didn't want the cheapest monitor. I was really looking for something that suits my short term needs and also fits my overall setup long term.I have bought and returned several other less expensive models before settling on this one.While I may have to compromise and leave this as the best overall option I currently have can afford backlight bleeding has really started to bother me. If you can afford to upscale to resolutions above 1080p I recommend you do it. SETUP Physically setting up the monitor is the easy part. You have the shield and handle in one piece so all you have to do is attach the base I knew I would with this model would not have a riser and the stand had limited adjustment options. If this is your only secondary monitor, then this is probably a minus. In my case, the fact that this monitor is VESA mount compatible made a difference for me. I can remove the base and install or mount my own riser on it. I will do that in the long term. So I can live with a limited base in the short term. However, setting the actual ad turned out to be problematic. The monitor does not look correct by default. It actually looked "gray" instead of black with my black background. Let me give you a simple version. Use the on-screen menus to restore factory settings. Then choose the mode you like the most and start editing the settings from there. I think Theater mode is best for general use, although I've switched to Game mode for a variety of tasks. I fiddled with the settings for too long before I got what seems acceptable to me. Software wise, there are drivers on the ASUS website that I've tried, but Windows 10 refuses them. There is also a "MultiFrame Software Utility" that doesn't seem to do anything after installation. All system information indicates that this monitor runs at 60Hz. To set it to 75Hz you have to go through all the menus to get to the properties and change them manually. PERFORMANCE In terms of the claimed 1ms response time and 75Hz refresh, the performance is really underwhelming. It's ok and I'll probably leave it. But the colors, brightness, and clarity don't live up to the advertised specs of this monitor. I have many less expensive monitors that "look" better than they're worth. I still can't get it all black, and there's what looks like a breakout, mostly at the bottom of the frame. With increased use, this easy bleeding has become incredibly annoying. This can be seen even in a brightly lit workspace with the lights on, so it's undeniable when working in the dark. I haven't noticed any problems with videos. So it could well be that the performance could be okay for high FPS games. I suspect you should upgrade to some of the higher end ASUS monitors if you're serious about playing CounterStrike or something similar. Perhaps full HD on a 27 inch monitor is no longer good enough. Perhaps 1440p or UHD is essential for high-quality gaming once your monitor gets this big. VALUE Some of the things ASUS got right made me keep this monitor, although I'm far from satisfied. o. Port compatibility is the biggest plus. This model has two HDMI video connectors, VGA and DP. This versatility lets me know I can easily swap it out for a variety of machines, which is the main reason I chose to keep it over the Dell SE2717HR. Dell appears to have had a nicer default color profile, but it wasn't VESA compliant and didn't have additional display ports. And yes, being able to mount my monitors with VESA is very important to me. For others this isn't a problem, but when trying to get the most out of my old monitors and with limited space to work with, I find it incredibly handy to be able to stack one screen on top of the other. Finally, there are built-in speakers. While you'll never get great performance, it's a welcome addition for situations where you need to hook up an old desktop or really basic laptop with inferior speakers. CONCLUSION This monitor offers good value for money and decent backwards compatibility with all display ports. I wish the usability for the OSD was better. And I really wish the light bleeding wasn't so excessive. I know if I recommended this to some of my friends I would have to set it up for them as just getting plain quality videos with default settings is not as easy as it should be.
