Review on Pyle PLCM11 Rearview Back-Up Camera: Parking πŸ“· Cam with Distance Scale Line Display, Night Vision, Waterproof by Stuart Sugden

Generally good - buy video extension first

Video quality looks good, cables are thick enough not to break during installation or after installation. I used to have a Boyo device with thin cables that broke. In most cases I will blame the installation I rented for this. The pyle box has stronger cables (I installed them myself) and after a few months the pyle box is still working fine. The pyle block is physically "bigger" than the boyo. This is due to the addition of LED lights, which in theory make for better night vision. I've found that LED lights do next to nothing for lighting, so the smaller Boyo unit is better in that regard. Boyo "snaps in" too. The Pyle block sags over time and needs to be tilted up a bit to point in the right place. I can probably fix that with some silicone, but haven't gotten around to it yet. The power and video cables on the Pyle unit are a standard RCA jack and wall plug adapter. I secured it with zip ties to make sure it didn't come loose. On the Boyo (not on this unit) the power and video grounds are connected to a very thin 4-wire cable that runs to the dashboard. I found it more convenient on the Pyle to connect power and ground to the reverse light and ground directly to the rear of the car rather than the dash, so the only thing going forward is the video cable (RCA). The number one thing to be aware of when working with a Pyle device is that the video cable from the back of the car is "too short" by about 2 to 9 feet. He's probably 12 feet long, but still too short. Solved in Radio Shack using a Video Extender (RCA). It's been a few months and it's working fine. Add $15 to the price. There are some subtle differences in the video between the two devices. The Boyo block is "wide-angled" than the Pyle. This gives the Pyle unit a better view of the cars and things behind the car, but it can barely see my hitch. At a distance of about 1 inch you get into the frame of the video. A tick was visible on the boyo block. It'll be a compromise, I'll have better rear vision to miss things when reversing, but less boast when trailering the car to hitch right under the trailer. Bottom line, I'm satisfied. For such a price a good device and a good purchase.
