Unlike most iPad mic holders/stands, this arrangement puts the iPad where it should be: in the singer's field of view, not somewhere under the mic where you have to look around the mic to see it. The bottom line is that the mic stand goes through the boom joint rather than stopping at it. However, I actually moved the stem to a slightly sturdier mic stand that I had, with more footprint for better stability. But this one will work just fine. Throwing a sandbag at the base in the crowd is even better. These iPads are not cheap. Update 3 months after purchase: Today the clip that secures the boom to the microphone stand broke. By failure I mean that the plastic piece that the lag screw was attached to broke spontaneously (I wasn't even in the room) and the boom fell onto the wooden floor with the microphone in the mount. Thank God it happened at home and not during a concert. Another copy might hold up better but I wouldn't trust it. Apparently the plastic doesn't hold the tension needed to keep the mic stand in place for long periods of time.
