I ordered it spontaneously because I've never dealt with it in the past. It has always been sandpaper, sanding blocks or power tools. It's exactly what you think it is: sandpaper taped to medium-soft sponge material. Your use case is a bit odd as sponges are much softer than the base of a grinder or whetstone. This makes them suitable for sanding rounded edges. For me it was the window sills after the paint was removed. I think it was a little harder to screw up the edge through a flat spot. These sanding pads are consumables just like regular sandpaper, it is unreasonable to expect them to last longer than a sheet of sandpaper. The downside of these things is that they take up a lot of space. I can keep a lot of sandpaper in the space these things take up.
